Getafe stadium offered for final

Getafe’s city authorities have offered to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) that the Coliseum Alfonso Perez host this year’s Copa del Rey Final.

The RFEF are currently in talks with this year’s finalists Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid over where to host their final, with Madrid reportedly keen on the Camp Nou and Atleti eager to stay in the capital.

As an alternative venue in Madrid that would offer neither Madrid nor Atleti the home advantage that the Santiago Bernabeu and Vicente Calderon might, Getafe’s Coliseum Alfonso Perez has been put forward.

The local city council have proposed that the 17,700 capacity ground, which is usually only half full when Los Azulones are playing, would be a suitable venue.

“The people of Getafe would feel very proud to celebrate the final of the Copa del Rey in our town, with two neighbouring teams,” local mayor Juan Soler is quoted as saying today.

Soler has described the Coliseum as ‘fit’ to host the game as a ‘neutral ground for the Madrid derby’.
