‘Why can’t we beat Atletico?’

Francisco Portillo believes that Malaga have already shown themselves this season a side capable of beating weekend opponents Atletico Madrid.

Malaga host the second-placed capital club this Sunday evening in fourth spot in the League, currently holding on to the final Champions League position.

For Portillo, a result is both necessary and possible in Week 26.

“It’s crucial that we forget about the last two defeats as we head towards Sunday’s League match,” began the 22-year-old today.

“We need to return to our usual style of football, and the best way to do this is to win in front of our fans.

“The team is having a great year, we’re taking part in two important competitions and are determined to get as far as possible both in the League and the Champions League.

“We’ve shown that we can defeat any rival, so why not Atletico Madrid?  They’re a completely different team than they were a year ago, since Simeone arrived.

“They’re strong and have shown time and again that they’re a great team.

“We’ll try and take the initiative on Sunday and impose our style of football. We’re proved throughout the season that we’re a strong team, and we’ve had a whole week this week to prepare for this match.”
