Francisco Portillo has outlined Malaga’s ambition to do as well as they can in the Copa del Rey this season, starting against Osasuna.
The Anchovies host their Primera Division rivals on Sunday evening in the first leg of the Round of 32 of the competition, and their young forward has made clear their ambition.
“It’s a great tournament. We’ve got a lot of confidence in our ability and will try our best to qualify to the next round,” Portillo has told reporters this week.
“The Copa del Rey is such an important competition, and we’ll be determined to win Sunday’s Cup match from the very first minute.
“Our last match against them [in La Liga] didn’t go well for us. [The 1-0 defeat at home] was a strange game.
“We now know how to play them and hope we can turn the situation around and come away victorious.”
Malaga head into the fixture off the back of a positive League result at Villarreal.
“We earned an important point against Villarreal and showed we can perform much better than we have been doing in recent games.
“We need to make sure we keep on the right track, and return to our level of play from the beginning of the season.”
