Sevilla duo pick up bans

Sevilla have seen Geoffrey Kondogbia banned for four games and Gary Medel for three, after their red cards picked up on Wednesday.

Both midfielders were sent off in the final 15 minutes of the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid for clashing with Atleti’s Diego Costa.

Medel picked up two yellow cards in the space of a few seconds on 75 for a foul on Costa followed by a kick out. Kondogbia was then dismissed on 90 minutes for a stamp on the Brazilian.

Medel has been hit with a three-game suspension for his actions, which included protesting to the referee afterwards and having to be removed from the pitch by teammates. The Chilean’s ban applies only to Cup matches.

Kondogbia’s four-game suspension for ‘stepping on an opponent’, however, is relevant to all competitions. Sevilla have said they will appeal the Frenchman’s punishment.
