Jemez: Rayo must beat Depor

Paco Jemez is looking forward to facing old club Deportivo tomorrow, but urges his Rayo Vallecano team that they must defeat the Galicians.

Rayo make the trip out to Riazor this Saturday sitting in eighth spot in the table, just three points away from Europe.

Whilst it is a comfortable situation, particularly in comparison to bottom of the table Deportivo, who are nine points adrift of safety, Jemez believes that his team need to win, after two defeats on the bounce.

“The situation for Deportivo is very difficult, but the big players come through in difficult situations and they could win this game,” began the Rayo Coach to reporters today.

“I do not expect an easy game because they will want to exhaust all possibilities.

“We are required to win if we want to achieve something extraordinary, as we dream of doing. Whilst we will have more games, if we do not win this one, this one is very important.

“It’s time to win and show what we are capable of against an opponent whose situation is not good, but who are motivated to win.

“They are down and for any team in their situation it is normal to think that they can get out. Their obligation is to try everything and the situation we have is going to make for a special atmosphere.”

Jemez spent five years at Depor as a player, so is looking forward to the return as a Primera Division Coach.

“It is a nice experience because I spent five years there, it is where I live when I am not working. I have an affection for the club and the city, but tomorrow I will do my best to win.

“Deportivo has given me a lot, but there is no sentimentality, the stakes are much higher than that and that’s what I see in my players.”
