Capdevila: Defeat won’t affect us

Joan Capdevila has reassured Espanyol fans that the team are unaffected by their defeat to Atletico Madrid, even if he feels they could have taken a point.

Los Pericos failed to break down Atleti’s 10 men on Sunday evening, much to Capdevila’s frustration, albeit amid a relaxed atmosphere.

“We lacked aggressiveness in attack, we left with the feeling that we could have done more,” reflected the full-back after training today.

“But, Atletico closed up very well and they are second in the table. Yesterday, we did not do well nor did we get a point, but this can far from harm us.

“We have to strengthen ourselves from Sunday, we must move on sooner rather than later.

“Our objective? Nobody has talked about Europe, we have always said that we should reach 42 points early and we still have 11 to go.

“Yesterday we could not add to that, which was a shame, and so we must keep working, we have no other objective.

“Survival will come thanks to our home stadium. Our supporters help us a lot and we feel very comfortable with them.

“Moreover, we can pressure the referee’s decisions a little more. Yesterday at the Calderon, and I say this without wanting to create controversy, we saw this.”
