‘Favourites don’t always win!’

Adriano Galliani is quietly optimistic that his Milan team can cause an upset against Barcelona, who he describes as ‘the best side in the world’.

La Blaugrana face up to the Italians at San Siro this evening as favourites to progress past the two-legged Champions League Last 16 tie.

“It will be a great event, a great game. It is beautiful to be in a position to be a part of this game,” commented Milan’s Vice-President Galliani to reporters today.

“We’ll be up against the best side in the world. Look at their midfield – it’s the one that Spain won the World Cup and European Championship with.

“I won’t make any prediction as I can’t see into the future, but we believe. Barca are favourites, but the favourites don’t always win.”

Focus before the match has been on President Silvio Berlusconi’s assertion that the club should man-mark Lionel Messi.

“Messi is the best player of all time. He is even better than Diego Maradona and Pele.”
