Unai Emery was left very happy for Sevilla’s 3-1 win over Deportivo on Friday night, but took the number of chances both positively and negatively.
Los Nervionenses were comfortable victors at home to the bottom side in La Liga, with all three goals scored in the first 40 minutes of play and the game providing 33 attempts on goal between the two teams.
“It was a great game which was open, with chances for Sevilla and Deportivo – the dynamic of an attacking game can provide chances,” Emery enthused post-match.
“We want to have all our chances, but see that the opponent does not have their chances, so we have to be self-critical and continue to refine things besides having control and positioning on the field, to give us consistency in defending.”
Emery was asked if the team’s following League fixture away to Barcelona would be disgarded, in favour of the following Wednesday’s return leg in the Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
“Although the 27th [the Atletico game] is an important date, now we have to think of Barcelona and find a competitive XI to win that game.
“Now I would say that I will take the best XI, but we’ll see for the injured and suspended, but we missed an opportunity in Madrid last weekend and we should not ignore Barcelona because the team has ground to still make up in the League.”
