Xavi: They want Messi as ‘bad guy’

Xavi Hernandez has revealed his irritation at the continued discussion about a rumoured clash between Lionel Messi, Aitor Karanka and Alvaro Arbeloa.

It was reported in the Press the day after the first leg of Real Madrid and Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final the trio clashed, with Messi insulting the Madrid duo.

Jose Callejon reiterated this version of events, whilst Jordi Alba reflected that it was unlikely to have happened for Messi’s nature.

Speaking to Catalan publication Sport, Xavi was the latest to be asked for his view on the incident.

“It’s rubbish, let’s talk about football. Why do we not talk about football?” the midfielder complained in an interview published today.

“This has happened in 100 years of football history and will continue to happen. Whoever loses goes mad – I do not know if it happened.

“I did not see anything, I am not interested, nor have I asked Leo. They want to sell Messi as a bad person, but is he that bad guy? No.

“He is competitive and will continue to be. What do they want from this?”
