Simeone seeks Atletico changes

Diego Simeone has reflected that he intends to change and improve Atletico Madrid in training, so as to maintain their League form.

Los Colchoneros are second in La Liga after a strong first half to the season and have just set a new club record for consecutive home wins in the Division.

However, for their Coach, there is a need to counter teams in a different way, to maintain an element of surprise.

“A lot of teams when starting a competition try to play in a certain way,” began El Cholo in a Press conference held today.

“I say that we should try, midway through the League season now, to change things because teams are now waiting, they have studied us and will clearly make it more difficult for us to keep winning in the same way.

“You have to look for alternatives and these are those.

“I repeat, playing with two strikers is not easy. Normally all teams play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and they have more midfield runners.

“Instead, we tend to play with two strikers and it is more difficult. It is why we generate a lot more coverage in midfield and a lot more depth from the strikers. On this, we are trying to improve.”

The Coach was asked of the attention surrounding Diego Costa, both positive and negative.

“He is in a very good moment. Diego did a good job in preseason but had to stop through injury, and since he has re-entered the team very well.

“It is a strong moment for him that the team can enjoy.

“The controversy? The best thing that can happen is that we don’t play for 12 days, so we do not have to comment about it.

“Reality is through the field and how he plays. He is an aggressive player and intense, but aggressive for the game and we think that is pretty good.”

Atleti travel out to Vallecas this weekend for a Madrid derby with Rayo Vallecano.

“They are a great team that has grown hand in hand with a courageous Coach, who plays a particular style of football, whilst today they are more balanced than at the start of the season and they are much more dangerous. No player on their team address the ball poorly.

“They are a dangerous team, we will be facing a Rayo who are in a very good moment and who are having a great season.”

“You never know, but we will try to go for the win. It is a difficult field, whilst we have drawn or been close to drawing in recent games.”
