Fernando Gago has left Valencia to join Argentine outfit Velez Sarsfield on loan until the end of the season.
The midfielder only joined Los Che in the summer, signing a four-year contract, but was reported in December upon hearing of Coach Mauricio Pellegrino’s sacking as demanding to President Manuel Llorente that he be sold.
Rumours followed of a link to Boca Juniors and whilst both the player and club denied his possible exit in recent weeks and the Boca deal failed to materialise, Gago completed a return to his homeland on deadline day.
Velez confirmed on the last day of the transfer window an agreement to take the 26-year-old from Mestalla on a five-month loan contract until the end of the season.
However, he will return to Valencia in the summer, as the Argentine outfit, who earlier in the week indicated that a move would be difficult financially, do not have a purchase option available to them.
