Monreal set for Arsenal

Malaga are set to lose Spanish international full-back Nacho Monreal on transfer deadline day, with Arsenal making a late move.

The 26-year-old is reported as in London this Thursday evening finalising terms, after the Gunners were understood to have agreed an initial €12m fee with Malaga, with a further €1m due in add-ons and clauses.

Monreal was first linked with Arsenal alongside a number of other clubs last summer and his departure comes midway through the season it also emerged that he was taking English lessons.

The Premier League side have returned this month for the Spain international left-back in light of regular Kieran Gibbs confirmed this week as facing a three-month injury lay-off.

Monreal would be the second player this term to make the move from the Costa del Sol to north London, following Santi Cazorla’s transfer to the Premier League side in the summer.
