Reports in France have it that Atletico Madrid are interested in taking French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff from Lyon.
Atleti are said to be in the transfer market for long-term cover in midfield and according to L’Equipe are one of a number of Spanish clubs tracking former Milan and Bordeaux player Gourcuff.
The player is believed to be on his way out of Lyon this month, but his employers are pushing to recoup back some of the €22m they paid for him in 2010.
Atleti’s interest is believed to be in the form of an initial loan deal until the end of the season, but this is something that the French are said to be asking €3m in exchange for.
L’Equipe believe agent Nikola Franco is responsible for negotiating the deal on Atletico’s behalf.
“Atletico are actually interested in Yoann,” Franco is quoted as saying.
“But the club will not pay a fee to loan Yoann – they want a free loan with the option to buy at the end of the season.”
