Casillas, Ramos deny ultimatum

Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos have followed President Florentino Perez in denying a report that they want Jose Mourinho out of Real Madrid.

Marca ran with the line that the two influential members of the dressing room had pressed Perez to sack the Portuguese in the summer, or see a number of first team players at the club ask to leave.

However, following on from Perez’ sharp denial, the duo have released a joint statement published through the club’s official website.

“In light of the report in the media today, the two captains of Real Madrid want to communicate the following:

1. That the meeting held on Tuesday with the President and director general of the club, there was never raised any ultimatum from us regarding our Coach.

2. As captains of the team and members of a professional and excellent group, we reject the use of our names and the rest of our staff in support of any information which is false in its entirety.

3. We want to show our support for our Coach, Jose Mourinho, to whom we owe the greatest respect.

4. Finally, we wish to convey to the members and fans of Real Madrid our unalterable conviction that only through unity of everyone will Real Madrid overcome, as always, the challenges that we face each season.

Hala Madrid!

Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos”
