Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for an unprecedented fourth time.
Messi received the honour a short time ago at Zurich’s Kongresshaus, defeating Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barca teammate Andres Iniesta.
The Argentine garnered 41.6 per cent of the vote, compared to Ronaldo’s 23.68 and Iniesta’s 10.91.
He becomes the first player to ever lift the Golden Ball four times, surpassing three time winners Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini and Marco van Basten
