Scrooge Djukic: Christmas is over

Real Valladolid boss Miroslav Djukic has urged his players to move on from Christmas quickly and focus on securing safety.

The Serb, whose side take on Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Sunday, does not want to see his squad adopt a relaxed attitude merely because they have performed well in the first half of the season.

“We will not spare anything, and we cannot mislead anyone,” he told journalists. “We know it will become more and more difficult to get wins.”

The former Valencia midfielder gave the impression that he has a rather bah humbug approach to the festive period.

“We had the Holiday season, congratulations, everything is nice…now comes the reality. There are many La Liga games ahead of us. We’ve shown we can compete with anyone, but we have to keep improving.

“Celta are a direct rival for us, a good team that likes to have the ball and plays fast players up front. We have to be strong and do well on the defensive side.”
