Depor talking to Assuncao

Deportivo are continuing their activity in the first phase of the January transfer market with talks opened with Paulo Assuncao.

The defensive midfielder, who spent four years in La Liga with Atletico Madrid, is currently negotiating a termination of his contract with Sao Paulo in Brazil.

The Brazilian, who carries a Portuguese passport, is then expected to make a return to Spain to sign for Domingos Paciencia’s Depor.

Reports in Spain believe that the 32-year-old is already in advanced discussions over a possible switch to Riazor this winter.

However, it is understood that Assuncao will have to accept terms much lower than his previous €2m-a-year Atleti contract, should he wish to complete the move to the bottom-of-the-League Depor.

Depor are close to securing Silvio Pereira on loan from Atletico, and are reportedly tracking Benfica’s Rodrigo Lima over a possible deal too.
