Madrid asked for €70m for Bale

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly placed a €70m price tag on Welsh winger Gareth Bale, in a bid to deter Real Madrid’s interest.

Speculation in recent days has returned again to the suggestion that the Spanish champions are plotting a move next summer for the 23-year-old left-sided attacking player.

However, the Daily Mail believe that Spurs, who were in protracted talks with Madrid throughout last summer over Luka Modric’s deal, have more than doubled the amount Los Blancos were believed to be preparing as an initial offer.

Where Marca last week thought that Madrid were set for a €30m offer, the Londoners’ chairman Daniel Levy is believed to be after €70m. Subsequently, it is thought in Spain that Los Merengues may counter with a player-plus-cash offer, with Coach Andre Villas-Boas believed to be an admirer of Fabio Coentrao in particular.
