Madrid favourites for Bale

Real Madrid have laid the groundwork for the arrival of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, according to reports in the Spanish Press.

Welsh international Bale has become one of the most impressive talents in the Premier League over the past few years, since his conversion from a left back to a left winger.

Marca believe that Madrid will solidify their interest in the player this summer, with several factors giving them the edge over other potential suitors such as Manchester United and City.

Firstly, Los Blancos have a strong relationship with Tottenham, having conducted various other pieces of business with the North London outfit in recent years, with Rafael van der Vaart, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luka Modric moving between the clubs.

Secondly, Spurs do not want to strengthen their rivals by selling him to another English club, and thirdly, Bale himself is said to be keen on the move.

Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is known to be a fan of Bale’s, but the move is not expected to hinge on whether or not Mourinho remains next summer, as seems increasingly unlikely.

The biggest stumbling block could be the price tag, which Tottenham have not specified as yet.
