Feghouli: ‘I want to stay’

Sofiane Feghouli has stated his desire to sign a new contract at Valencia, indicating that negotiations could be drawing to a close.

The French-born Algerian international has been reported in recent months as having stalled in talks with the club over a new contract. With his current deal expiring in June 2014, speculation grew that he was to be sold in one of 2013’s two transfer windows.

However, following on from this week’s reports of advancing talks, the 22-year-old has made clear where his intentions lie.

“I want to stay here and the truth is that I will make an effort to stay. The club is also going to make an effort for me to stay and we are close to an understanding,” commented the player on the club’s official website.

“Valencia has given me a lot. My level of performance is owed to this club and I am grateful to the directors and staff, they do a great job.”

Feghouli, who will be away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in January, also looked forward to the Champions League Last 16 clashes with Paris Saint-Germain.

“I think we can do something interesting. On a personal level, I find this tie very nice because I am from Paris. It is going to be very nice to play there with my family. It is going to be a dream, something fantastic.”

PSG were one of the clubs rumoured to have been tracking the attacking midfielder in recent weeks.
