Javier Aguirre was not as happy as expected after seeing his Espanyol defeat relegation rivals Deportivo on Thursday night.
The Catalans picked up a much needed three points to at least temporarily vault out of the relegation zone and into lower mid-table territory.
Even so, Aguirre spent his post-match talking of where the team are still lagging behind.
“We need to improve, we have not yet taken the final step,” warned the Mexican post-match.
“Everything is hidden in the joy of a win. As a block, we must attack and defend, we did not have the possession that we wanted and I have seen more cracks in the defence that we should have had.
“A draw might have been a fair result. It was a game more open than most that we have played before, and the most even. But you need to understand the situation of both teams to understand the impact of the game.”
