Valencia aiming for final

Valencia director Fernando Giner has reflected that the club are targeting eliminating Paris Saint-Germain on their way to the Champions League Final.

Los Che have been paired with the expensively-assembled French in the Last 16 draw, but whilst they represent a ‘tough opponent’, the Spaniards’ ambition remains progression.

“If we are here it is because we are among the top 16 teams in Europe,” stated director Giner, who revealed that he had joked beforehand with PSG sporting director and former Valencia player Leonardo of drawing them.

“PSG are a tough opponent, but we are happy to be here, we must unite in order to progress past this round and to reach the final that we all desire.

“I don’t know the days that we will play, but I know that as runners-up in our group we will play at home first and then the return leg there.

“At home we will try to make the Mestalla an experience of a lifetime, for it can make the players fly. In these difficult times, the Champions League gives us terrifying ambition.”
