Atleti-Levante possible Last 16

Atletico Madrid face Rubin Kazan in the Europa League Round of 32 and Levante are paired with Olympiacos, whilst the two could then meet in the Last 16.

Atleti, who have won the competition in two of the previous three seasons and have yet to lose a knockout game in the Europa League since it was rebranded as such from the UEFA Cup, face a difficult tie with Russian outfit Rubin.

It is a first competitive meeting between the two teams. Rubin’s best performance in the Europa League has been a Last 16 appearance during the 2009-10 campaign. The Russians topped their group stages ahead of Italian side Inter.

Group L runners-up and competition debutants Levante will face a first European venture to Greece to face national champions Olympiacos, who drop into the Europa League after finishing third in their Champions League group.

The Greeks’ previous best performance in UEFA’s secondary competition has been to reach the Last 16, which has been achieved three times, including last season.

With both Spanish sides finishing second in the group stage, they were unseeded for today’s draw and will therefore play the first leg of their Round of 32 clash at home.

The draw for the Last 16 was also held and should both teams progress then they will meet each other.

The first legs of the Round of 32 ties will be played on February 14 and the second legs on February 21, whilst the Last 16 first legs are scheduled for March 7 and the second legs on March 14.
