‘Levante vs. Chelsea? So be it’

Midfielder Ruben Garcia says Levante are hungry to beat the 31 point half-season total they amassed last term.

The Granotes sixth place finish last season was widely considered a freak occurrence but they have proved otherwise this year. With three games to play until they reach the official halfway point, Juan Ignacio Martinez’s side are 5th with 27 points.

“We are four points away from last season’s total of 31 with three games left,” Garcia told reporters after today’s training session. “We’ll see, we have no roof above us, I think we can do it.”

“The challenge was to score as many points as possible, closer to 42, because with five wins we would ensure permanence. To get those points in the first round of fixtures would be much better.”

A 19-year-old winger, Garcia broke into Martinez’s first team earlier in the season and scored the winner against Real Zaragoza yesterday.

“I’m very happy, pleased with the confidence the Coach has in me and I think I’m responding. Last year I was eating in the same place in Zaragoza with the youth team, as we ate in yesterday. The only thing that changes in my life is the cameras.”

The teenager admitted he has his eye on Chelsea when the Europa League draw is made on Thursday.

“If it’s Chelsea it would be awesome. But we want to go through, and they would be difficult. If they come, so be it.”
