Jemez sees Chori’s worth

Paco Jemez praised Chori Dominguez’ performance for Rayo Vallecano against former club Valencia, but made clear it was not borne out of revenge.

Dominguez’ late penalty earned Rayo a 1-0 win in his first appearance at Mestalla since ending an unhappy tenure there as a player.

“Chori played a great game, he is an exemplary player, a breath of fresh air for us,” declared Coach Jemez in praise of the Argentine.

“We are delighted with him and if things did not go well for him at Valencia then that is another matter.

“He did not claim the penalty for that, but for the game that he has played. The penalty was the icing, but revenge is not in the player.”

The result saw Rayo leapfrog Los Che in the table and ended a run of two successive League defeats.

“We have to congratulate the team for their work, which sometimes has not been enough this season to win. Now, it has been, as we managed to contain the opponent and play when we needed to.

“It was a close game, but in the second half I think we did a bit more than Valencia.”
