Alejandro Dominguez has thanked teammate Piti for letting him hit Rayo Vallecano’s penalty winner against Valencia.

The Argentine did the honours in the 83rd minute yesterday to give Rayo a shock 1-0 win at Mestalla. It was a particularly special moment for ‘Chori’, who once played for Valencia and left the club on bad terms.

“I had the confidence to hit it, and although the penalty taker is Piti, it was a great gesture from him,” the former Zenit St Petersburg man told Rayo’s official website. “It can be a special goal, with the chants and things the fans did against me, but I think I behaved normally, without gestures or anything weird to the fans.

“I am delighted that we got back to winning after two losses, and the team did a great job, a great effort and an intelligent game, which suited us as a team and worked out well.

“In addition, I learned that this was Rayo’s first win at Mestalla, which is something very beautiful. It’s historic and important for us.”

Dominguez then recapped upon the Franjirros seasonal efforts so far.

“On balance so far it’s positive but we have to be relaxed, confident and calm. We must stay the same and try to get as many points as possible. Now we just have to think about Levante, who we have to take seriously because it will be difficult.”
