‘Man City hoping to emulate Barca’

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has admitted that the Premier League team hope to be spoken in the same breath as Barcelona.

The Sheikh Mansour-owned club have recently appointed former Blaugrana men Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain as chief executive and director of football respectively.

And the Spain international has conceded that their ultimate ambition is to emulate the success of the Catalan club.

“They were part of a club that win everything you could win in Spain and Europe,” he told The Guardian.

“They were part of a very successful era at Barcelona. Hopefully that's what they are bringing here and we can do something similar.

“We hope that one day we are a club that is spoken about like Barcelona.

“It's hard to say we are close to that because, although we won the Premier League, we also went out of the Champions League.

“But it is a question of working hard and trying to make more of an impact in Europe.”
