Diego Simeone insists that Atletico Madrid must play the second leg against Getafe the same as the first in order to win through, despite a 3-0 advantage.
Atleti hold the strong lead going into January’s second leg of this Last 16 Copa del Rey clash, but their Coach is clear that Getafe are a team capable of making things uncomfortable.
“Despite the result, the tie is not decided yet. It is not determined,” El Cholo told reporters after the result.
“For the Copa I have much respect and we will have to play the second leg with the same intensity, because Getafe made things very difficult for us in the first few minutes of this game. The second half we were very good and we have taken an important victory here.
“The poor attendance for the game? It is normal, the game was very late and people have to work tomorrow.”
Radamel Falcao was excluded from the starting line-up and reportedly only as the last minute decision, but Diego Costa netted twice in his absence, either side of a Filipe Luis goal.
“He deserves it as he is working very well. He is very important for the team. He’s a very strong player when he is focused, it is very difficult to score.”
