Messi Snr: Leo to retire at Barca

Lionel Messi’s father Jorge believes it would be a ‘catastrophe’ if his son were to leave Barcelona.

Speaking to the programme ‘El Partida de las Doce’, Messi senior discussed a variety of topics pertaining to his son, from the breaking of Gerd Muller’s record to his future at Camp Nou.

“The record? It seemed impossible that Leo could overcome a monster like that.

“We are well and he is happy. It is impossible to think about him leaving, it would be a catastrophe if Leo left Barcelona. He has always said he wants to retire at Barca.

“Who would I want to win the Ballon d’Or other than Leo? [Andres] Iniesta undoubtedly, although this year is very competitive because Cristiano Ronaldo also had a great season.”

Jorge admitted to being anxious when his son hurt his knee against Benfica last week.

“It was a big scare, because he never complains. Luckily it was nothing.”
