Simeone ‘Falcao’s feat unmatchable’

Diego Simeone has praised Radamel Falcao for his five goals against Deportivo and doubts that it will be a record matched anytime soon.

The Colombian became the second player in Atletico Madrid’s history after Vava in 1958 to net five in a single League match, helping his team to a 6-0 win over Deportivo on Sunday.

“I am happy for what happened. He is loved by the fans and his teammates respect him,” Simeone enthused afterwards.

“He always wants more and this is a historic day. I do not know if someone will repeat five goals in a game for Atletico. When he has the chances then it is difficult for him to stop.”

The scoring was opened by Falcao’s strike partner Diego Costa, who Simeone also had some praise for.

“I have said that we needed to be competitive. He is powerful and conveys fear to the opposing defences. We have very good strikers here, with him, Falcao and Adrian, every game we are strong.

“I am happy with the whole team’s reaction. The first 30 minutes were competitive, but after that the team was very good.”
