Alvarez asks for ‘magical’ Espanyol

Espanyol captain Cristian Alvarez is confident that they can escape relegation this season, despite a poor start to the season.

The Periquitos currently sit 19th in La Liga on 11 points, but the Argentine goalkeeper believes, with the help of the fans, they can move out of the danger zone.

“The squad is together and growing all the time,” he told a Press conference. “We are all confident that we can pull this off.

“We know what we're playing for this season. This club has 112 years of history and deserves the best.

“It is hard to ask for more from the fans, but we need them. Everyone notices their energy on the field.

“I know what this club is capable of and the spirit it can create. We must create something magical to take the club forward.”

He also commented on their dramatic 2-2 draw with Sevilla on Friday evening.

“We did everything to get the three points,” he said. “It was just a brief lack of concentration that cost us.

“I'm sad, because also quietly content because we are getting increasingly better.”
