Lionel Messi has been working in the gym on his day-off to try and be fit for Barcelona’s visit to Real Betis on Sunday.

The Argentine suffered a bruised knee during the Blaugrana’s 0-0 draw with Benfica on Wednesday, and admitted in an interview yesterday he had ‘feared the worst.’

However the problem has proved not as serious as first thought and Messi – who is chasing Gerd Muller’s record of 85 goals in a calendar year – has used today, a day designated for rest, to continue physiotherapy.

Mundo Deportivo report that the 25-year-old will train with his teammates tomorrow morning then make a decision in consultation with Coach Tito Vilanova and club doctor Pruna regarding whether he should travel to Seville.
