Emre facing prison sentence?

An Istanbul prosecutor has reportedly asked that Atletico Madrid midfielder Emre Belozoglu be imprisoned if found guilty of racial abuse.

The Turkish international is the subject of a legal complaint from Trabzonspor for alleged racial insults he is said to have aimed towards their midfielder Didier Zokora.

This dates back to April 15, from Emre’s time with Fenerbahce. The midfielder admitted at the time to insulting the former Sevilla man in English, but ‘without racist intent’ and was banned by the Turkish League for two games, with the insults still unproven as racist.

However, Zokora’s club have taken the case further and filed a legal complaint and it is reported today via Turkish outlet Hurriyet that Emre is being considered by the prosecution in the case for a prison sentence of between six months and two years, if he is found guilty.

Emre left Fenerbahce in the summer on a free transfer, moving across the Atletico Madrid, where he has so far made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.
