Txiki ‘preparing City for Pep’

Manchester City’s new director of football Txiki Begiristain is reportedly actioning a plan at the club to proposition Pep Guardiola.

The former Barcelona boss, who worked with Begiristain in his first few years as a Coach at the Catalans, is currently on a year-long sabbatical from the game

However, he has been attracting increasing speculation this month, with City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Milan and Paris Saint-Germain all having been linked with hiring him.

City’s latest reported plan to snare the in-demand 41-year-old comes via Sport, who say that Begiristain [pictured, left] is particularly keen to lighten the size of the English champions’ playing squad, to reduce the wage bill and the number of players available to the team’s Coach.

The director’s intention is to present a more workable team at the club to attract Guardiola to take over with. This take on matters is matched by Sport’s suggestion that the English are only going to run with Roberto Mancini as manager until the end of the season.
