‘Point not enough’ for Jimenez

Manolo Jimenez believes that Real Zaragoza deserved all three points away to Mallorca, for the way they defended with a man less.

The Aragonese had to be content with just a point to take home, though, after playing from the 16th minute with 10 men only to see Victor Casadesus score with five minutes remaining.

“We sunk with that late goal, and whilst it is true that Mallorca did have their chances, we had endured more than 80 minutes with 10 men after the expulsion of our defender for nothing, which conditioned the game,” summed up Jimenez afterwards.

“My team were well behaved to defend with discipline and camaraderie in Mallorca’s stadium. This point, though, is not enough because we worked hard and did enough to win after the success of Roberto in saving the early penalty and when Helder Postiga scored when we were down to 10.”

For Jimenez, it was a particular move of Joaquin Caparros that proved the difference between Zaragoza winning and in the end drawing.

“Clearly Joaquin match Giovani dos Santos with Alejandro Alfaro because he created many issues for us on the wing and obliged us to go an extra mile.”
