Pique unimpressed by Mourinho

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has claimed that the Blaugrana have a different style to Real Madrid and their Coach Jose Mourinho.

The centre back, recently recovered from injury, spoke to journalists this morning, and was asked about Mourinho’s behaviour before the Madrid derby on Saturday.

“Mourinho putting on another show appearing before the game? It’s his decision to go out there and let people judge him. Here we are more natural, we behave in a consistent way and that’s it.”

Pique made a point of praising Coach Tito Vilanova for the part he’s played in Barca’s record breaking start to the season, making reference to the surgery he had last year to remove a tumour.

“After what Tito has been through, this is like a game for him. When he took the reins he knew we would be behind him. Pep [Guardiola] was a very hard act to follow.

“I think our start can be put down to two things, playing well and having good fortune. But in the last few games we are playing better than we did at the beginning. We are scoring goals and improving at the back.

“When you’re getting results everything is easier. I always remember Magic Johnson, who played with a smile. If you play well you feel better.”

The 25-year-old also made mention of Wednesday’s Champions League opponents Benfica, Guardiola being linked with Paris Saint-Germain, and the Ballon d’Or.

“Benfica are coming to win so that they can qualify. They’re a very offensive team with quality players like Pablo Aimar and Oscar Cardozo. We’ll play to win as always, to cap off the group and continue our good streak.

“Knowing Pep, he can fit into any team. When he came here there was not a lot of patience, we were two years without winning. He settled in very quickly and did well.

“I sincerely think [Andres] Iniesta can win the Golden Ball, and Cristiano Ronaldo had a great season, but as I’ve said many times, my favourite is Leo [Messi]. To score 50 league goals is outrageous.”
