Modric amazed by Bernabeu

Midfielder Luka Modric believes Real Madrid are Champions League favourites if they play like they did against Atletico Madrid.

The Merengues cut the gap between them and their city rivals to five points with a 2-0 victory at the Bernabeu in Saturday’s derby.

“If we play like we did against Atletico we are favourites to win the Champions League,” the Croatian playmaker stated in a media briefing before tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Ajax.

“Ajax are a very good team, they’re coming to win the game. I played against them twice with Dinamo Zagreb and they were very good games. Christian Eriksen is a very talented player, important for Ajax.”

Modric also fielded inquiries about his adaptation to Spanish football and the speculation surrounding Jose Mourinho’s future.

“I’m progressing quite well. The League is tough, especially when you play away from home, because every team has good players. You can have problems if your attitude is not correct.

“All I can say on that subject is that Mourinho is under contract with Real Madrid and staying with him is the best possible course to take. I hope he stays a long time.”

The former Tottenham man has also particularly enjoyed the sensation of playing at the Bernabeu since his summer switch.

“The stadium is fantastic, the best I’ve ever played in. It’s wonderful to go out and play in front of 80,000 people. It’s a good feeling and I enjoy every moment of every game.”
