Portillo backs Malaga’s credentials

Francisco Portillo has admitted that midweek saw a bad game from Malaga, but that there are no doubts about the team’s collective desire.

Coach Manuel Pellegrini hit out at his players for lacking the correct attitude on Tuesday in falling to a 1-0 home defeat in the Copa del Rey second leg clash with Cacerano.

“It was not our day, because the team always comes out to play, with good attitude,” reflected Portillo to the gathered media today.

“It was not our day for many reasons, but this team has always shown that it will show itself and we should not doubt that.”

Last weekend saw Portillo open the scoring in a 4-0 win for the team over Valencia, but the four League games played before that only yielded two points and have seen the side slip out of top three contention.

“We may have a difficult picture in front of us, but this team is going to try and get as far as it possibly can, in the League, Cup and Champions League and we will always go for the win in each game.”

The next game for Malaga to go for a win in is away to Getafe this Saturday afternoon.

“The important thing is to focus on Getafe, which will be a very difficult match against a team who will also not think about anything other than winning.

“Getafe have proven to be a good team, they will not make things easy, but we know that if we do things right then we can bring home the three points.”

Madrid are anticipating low temperatures this weekend.

“The cold will be no excuse, we are going out for the win and to move forwards as always.”
