Jimenez rues kick-off time

Manolo Jimenez reflected that his Real Zaragoza players did not deserve too much criticism for their defeat, instead putting focus on the game’s scheduling.

Zaragoza fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Celta Vigo on Monday night, which according to Jimenez was a time that played its part in switching his players off.

“We cannot win in 80 minutes and then lose the game in 10. This was a Monday game, with the whole day beforehand and it was difficult to get the players going,” complained Jimenez afterwards.

“This is a step back, but we hope to take more steps forward. Still, you cannot judge the work of the team each day.

“I can say that we are not playing certain aspects of the game well, but I will not let it be said that the team is a disaster.”

The Coach was taken to task on bringing on Carlos Aranda to play alongside Helder Postiga in attack.

“I risked that because we wanted to win, but that has led us to drop a level in midfield. We are more offensive with Aranda and Postiga, but we need more of the team helping to attack.

“We’ve been short of ideas, but we did not lack oxygen.

“We controlled the game, dominated possession and they have won having had two chances. We should create more opportunities and some more concrete.”
