Espanyol to consider Marcelino

As Joan Collet reportedly just waits approval from Espanyol’s board to appoint Javier Aguirre as Coach, he is set to meet with Marcelino Garcia Toral.

Los Periquitos parted company with Coach Mauricio Pochettino on Monday after a poor start to the season left the club bottom of the table with just nine points from 13 games played.

Former Sevilla Coach Marcelino and former Atletico Madrid boss Aguirre were seen as the frontrunners to come in as immediate replacements, with the latter reported to have already accepted an offer from Collet last night.

However, signing the 53-year-old to a contract to the end of this season with the option for another year is still waiting approval from the Catalan club’s board.

They are believed to actually prefer Marcelino as a candidate and, still awaiting an answer on Aguirre, Collet is reportedly in Madrid today and will meet with Marcelino as a precaution.

An announcement was initially expected to be made today, but the latest developments suggest that Wednesday will be the earliest that confirmation one way or another comes through.
