Former Atletico Madrid Coach Javier Aguirre is the new favourite to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at Espanyol.
Although official confirmation from the club is still lacking, Pochettino is thought to have been dismissed this morning, with Los Pericos languishing at the bottom of La Liga.
Former Sevilla trainer Marcelino Garcia Toral was then said to be on the cusp of a deal with the Cornella-El Prat outfit. However the latest reports are suggesting he has been overtaken by Aguirre.
The Mexican is a familiar face and something of an old hand at Coaching La Liga clubs, having taking charge of Atleti, Osasuna and Real Zaragoza, who sacked him just under a year ago. The 53-year-old has also worked with the Mexican national team.
