‘Hopefully BATE scare Bayern’

Roberto Soldado has conceded that topping the Champions League group is difficult, but he hopes that BATE Borisov can lend a helping hand.

Los Che booked their place in the knockout stages of the competition last night, even before their eventual 1-1 draw with the Germans was played out.

Valencia sit second in Group F with Bayern now holding the superior head-to-head record,  meaning that the Spanish can only finish top if they record a better result over Lille than Bayern do over BATE.

“The demand [in the game] was great, especially when we were left with 10 men, but we are happy with how we managed,” reflected Soldado after facing the Germans.

“We have been strong and we have found out that we can counter-attack. It was a shame in the end that Bayern equalised.

“Can we win the group? To expect Bayern to have a bad result is difficult. We know how hard it is to beat Bayern, but hopefully BATE can give them a scare so we can be first in the group.”

The striker also had some words for the support received on the night from the home crowd.

“It was impressive how the whole ground encouraged us. It was what we needed to be stronger because there was a time when we did not have much strength.

“When we got the goal it was ecstasy. Now hopefully we have demonstrated our level and we should not lower that demand.”
