It has been revealed that Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez turned down a mega-offer from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.
The proposal for the 32-year-old was made public by Onda Cero’s Alfredo Martinez and would have been worth €21m-a-year to the Spanish international.
Xavi has spent all his football life at Barca since joining the club aged 11 and is currently holding talks to extend his contract for a further two years until 2016.
Negotiations have been on-going since late September, with the player’s agent Ivan Corretja not anticipating any problems as Xavi has always made it clear he wants to end his career at the Camp Nou.
“We have always agreed in previous talks and there have never been problems of any kind,” said Corretja at the time.
“For the player it is very important to know that the club remains confident in him. Therefore, I do not think there is any problem," he added.
