Arbeloa: Cristiano is happy

Alvaro Arbeloa is one of several Real Madrid players to make clear that Cristiano Ronaldo is happy at the club, in reaction to further rumours of discontent.

The Portuguese has been the subject of speculation this season after declaring himself ‘unhappy’ at the club in early September.

Followed up by rumours of a move abroad, which have continued this weekend, moments like being pictured this week with a No 7 sticker covering up the Madrid badge on his jacket are being analysed as actions of a man still unhappy.

However, after the 5-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday night, Arbeloa followed up teammate Sergio Ramos and assistant Coach Aitor Karanka in denying such a mood has befallen their star.

“It is rare that he has not scored in a game that we have managed five goals, but it does not matter, he will save his goals for when we lack more than we did today…” joked the full-back at full-time.

“He has made it clear many times that he is happy here and that he is in the best club in the world, which is where a player like him has to be.”

Arbeloa also reflected on the need to win each and every week, in light of the eight-point deficit to Barcelona.

“We are obliged to win every game but we know it will be difficult for them to lose points. The 3-1 in Saturday’s game was dangerous if they had pulled it back to 3-2…with the fourth goal the team has played more relaxed and we produced a great second half.”
