Juan Mata: Panama win was not so easy

Spain midfielder Juan Mata said the 5-1 friendly win over Panama on Wednesday was not quite as easy as it looked.

The Chelsea man, recalled to the squad after being overlooked for the World Cup qualifiers with Belarus and France, maintained that the scoreline disguised the fact that Vicente del Bosque’s men had to work hard to achieve the result.

“It wasn’t that easy because this match was a potential banana skin. They are a team that has a chance to qualify for the World Cup and the weather conditions were not the best for us, but we gave a good display.”

“We played well, put on a spectacle and we’ll return to Spain happy,” Mata told assembled media, before declaring his delight at being back in the international fold.

“The last time I was upset to be left out but I’m enjoying being back with my teammates again and I’m very happy at Chelsea,” he said.
