After Alex, Depor talk Riki

Having confirmed Alex Bergantinos to a new contract this week, Deportivo are now keen to open negotiations with a number of others, including Riki.

Bergantinos was confirmed earlier this week as having signed a new three-year deal with the Galician outfit, extending a deal that was due to expire next summer through to June 2016, with a €10m buyout clause confirmed,

In sitting alongside the clearly delighted Bergantinos at yesterday’s Press conference, the club’s technical secretary explained the policy going forward.

“Alex was always willing as a football and to be here, and that was taken into account by Deportivo. It is why we wanted him to be the first to renew his contract,” explained Ernesto Bello.

“We have spent some time on the players whose contracts are up next summer. Several have an offer on the table and the ball is now in their court.”

The list is generally accepted to include Manuel Pablo, Laure, German Lux and Ze Castro, and most notable striker Riki.

“We are trying to renew as soon as possible the players of interest to us. Riki is one of these and is a permanent fixture in the team. He is a priority and one we are fond of.”

Bello also confirmed that in light of Nelson Oliveira’s grade II tear to a muscle between his hip and thigh, the club will be dipping into the January market for another striker.

“If we cannot find one before then, things will be far more difficult.”
