Man City target Neymar

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has hinted at entering the bidding for Santos and Brazil forward Neymar, if possible.

The 20-year-old striker has been continuously linked with Barcelona and was the subject of further speculation last week when reports suggested that the Catalans had already put down a €10m deposit on a future transfer.

However, following on from downplaying by Barca, Santos and the player himself, the British Press have picked up on Mancini’s comments that English champions Manchester City are keen to try and enter negotiations for the star.

Mancini confirmed on Saturday evening that he is keen to discuss the player with new sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who previously worked at Barcelona.

“I have read that Barcelona have bought Neymar but I don't know if it is true,” the manager commented to reporters.

“But I am very happy to work now with the new sporting director because he may know situations that I don't, and we can move very quickly regarding some players.

“If we work well in the next three or four years, Manchester City can be very strong.”
