Sheikh not paid Malaga debt

The latest deadline for Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani to pay money owed to Malaga’s players has passed and reportedly without success.

The club’s owner has been back in town in the past week and recently declared that he would be putting more money into the club.

However, following on from later reports that cast doubt on this, today sees several outlets running the line that the Sheikh has not honoured the €10m payment on wages owed to the playing staff on October 31.

There has been no official statement from the club on the matter, prompting speculation that the money has not been paid.

Al-Thani has allegedly pushed for a further delay in paying the players what they are owed, with President Vicente Casado reportedly believed set to meet with the team in the coming days to explain why and to detail the steps ahead.

Meanwhile, the players are reportedly set to meet with Coach Manuel Pellegrini upon returning to training on Thursday afternoon to discuss their own consensus on how to proceed further. It is rumoured that the group will release a statement on the situation via the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE).
