Riki: Celta game a turning point

Deportivo de La Coruna striker Riki believes the 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo will prove to be a turning point in his club’s season.

A Juan Dominguez equaliser earned Depor a share of the spoils in the Galician derby after four straight defeats, and Jose Luis Oltra’s men now face Real Mallorca in the Copa del Rey before a La Liga fixture against the same opponents next weekend.

Riki feels it is an opportunity for the team to boost morale and instil some much-needed confidence.

“If you asked me which I’d most like to win I’d say the League game is clearly the most important, but obviously I want to win both,” the 32-year-old told a Press conference.

“People think the Copa del Rey could be a nuisance for a team that is on a bad run but I don’t see it like that. Playing games is always important, more so for those that have not been playing regularly as they want to prove they are good enough to participate in La Liga.

“It matters to all of us, especially the fact that it can help further boost our confidence after the draw in Vigo.

“I think that result has strengthened us and will be a turning point, as the Coach said, and I’m convinced we will now start to climb the table,” he insisted.
