Manuel Pellegrini took Milan's change of formation as a sign of respect after another famous Champions League win for Malaga.
“We saw Milan changed and adapted to us, which means we have become a big side and deserve to be in the Champions League,” the Chilean tactician remarked after the Italian side lined-up in a 3-4-3 at La Rosaleda. Joaquin missed a first half penalty for the Andalusians but made amends by netting the winner midway through the second half.
“We weren’t sure how Milan would be set out, but I had told the lads to pass the ball around and once they got hold of the initiative, they didn’t let go. It’s just a shame we didn’t put the result under lock and key earlier.
“I don’t know the reality of the situation at Milan, but I can see a new era emerging there and big changes.”
Malaga are the only side in the tournament yet to concede and have given theirselves an excellent chance of qualifying as Group C winners.
“Right now we are in a good position, but until there is mathematical certainty we cannot say that we are already qualified.”
